Pat and Matt are avid boating enthusiasts who are always
interested in improving the appearance and performance ofthe boat
shed in which they secure their vessels. A national boating
competition is due to be held at Brisbane in September and Pat and
Matt would like to place in the top ten in the race. To improve
their chances ofsuccess in the competition they make some changes
to their boat shed. The changes are made with a view to making the
space a better workplace for them. They first install a new
pressurised lift to allow the boats to be hoisted further up. This
is made secure and safe by cementing the hoist into the ground.
They then attach a multi-drawer toolkit to the wall with a single
bolt. This is to prevent the toolkit from falling over while they
are working on their boats. Finally, because of the long hours they
now spend at the shed, they also purchase and put in the shed a
refrigerator to keep their lunch and drinks cool while they work
all day long. Yesterday Pat and Matt received an email inviting
them to compete in an international boat race in France. They have
accepted the invitation but need to sell their boat shed first to
raise the funds to go to France. They are unsure which ofthe items
they have just added to their boat shed they must leave as part of
the sale and which they can take with them. Advise Pat and Matt in
property law.
